Mt.Climbing

Kilimanjaro,the highest mountain in Africa,is located between latitude 2º50"_3º10"S and longitude 37º10"_37º40"E,about 330km South of the Equator,near the Tanzania-Kenya border.It comprises of two dormant(Kibo 5895m a.m.s.l and Mawenzi 5149m a.m.s.l)and one extinct(Shira 3962m a.m.s.l)volcanoes,respectively.It is also one of the World's highest free standing mountains that raises on the undulating surrounding plain that averages around 1000m above sea level.Kilimanjaro was established in 1973,officially opened for tourism in 1977,and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1989.
The Kilimanjaro Park Headquarters is at Marangu,about 41 km from Moshi town and 86 km from Kilimanjaro International Airport.
There  two rainy seasons in a year,wet season is from March-May during which it rains around the mountain base and snow accumulates on its peak.
The dry season is from late June through September during which the nights are cool and the days completely clear.
During the short rainy period of October-December there is rain during the day whereas the nights and mornings remain clear with excellent visibility.

Mount Meru

Mount Meru is 14,980 feet (4,565 m) high, and serves as a great warm up before climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft/5,895 m) altitude acclimatization and you may elect to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with a lower number of days after climbing Meru. On the mountain, there is a good chance of seeing wildlife, and the crowds that can plague Kilimanjaro are non-existent here. Many people who climb both mountains have a quiet preference for the humble Mount Meru.

Mount Oldoinyo Lengai

Oldonyo Lengai, 2,870 (9,650 ft) is an active volcano on the southern shore of Lake Natron, located In the Rift valley. It is locally regarded by Maasai as a sacred mountain  “ mountain of God”. A nearly perfect cone, it still erupts occasionally and you may have the opportunity to walk on still-steaming new ground.
It is a tough drive about 3 hours off the main road between Arusha and Ngorongoro.

Usambara Mountains

Picture In the North Eastern part of Tanzania between Mount Kilimanjaro and the Indian Ocean, there lies the steeply rising mountains, the Usambara Mountains. The Usambara Mountains are green and fertile. On these mountains you can experience all facets of African rural life and enjoy the marvellous view of the area. Numerous historical buildings from the past are the evidence that Germans and English were favored with mountains because of its pleasant climate during the colonial era. From over distance seen, the mountains are just colorfully mosaics but also their seen is so romantic. During the sunset, the are turns into a tremendous pallet of unforgettable colors.

Touring on these colorfully and romantic mountains will lead you:

•  to the visit of superb viewpoints on the edge of the mountains;

•  a visit to various development projects in the area from soil conservation, traditional irrigation, cross breeding, afforestation, heath care–an ideal tour for the development lovers to see development in process;

•  a climb to Kwa Mongo, the mountain home to vast number of butterflies;

•  walk through the dense natural forests and along small rivers that race downhill;

•  a view into the history and daily life of the Sambaa farmers who are habitats of the mountain; and

MT.CLIMBING MARANGU ROUTE

5 DAYS 4 NIGHT.

DAY 1.
After breakfast, you meet your climbing guides and porters for briefing.Transfer to Marangu gate (45 minutes), register and commence the climb. The route passes though rain forest. Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut. (4-5hrs) 

DAY 2
After breakfast you will continue your ascent through a short stretch of forest
Skirting the base of Maundi Crater and finally arrive at Horombo dinner and overnight. View of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo are amazing. 5-7hrs.

DAY 3
Ascending, pass the last watering point, walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Dinner, rest and prepare for summit climb.6-7hrs. Overnight at Kibo Hut.

DAY 4.
Early in the morning (midnight to 2am), commence the climb to the summit. As the sun rises, you should be at Gillman’s Point on the edge of the crater. A further hour along the crater rim takes you to Uhuru Peak the highest point in Africa at 5895m.The descend is much quicker.1-2hrs.Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.

DAY 5.
The descent continues past Mandara back down to the Park Gate, then transferred back to Moshi.

 

Marangu Route Itinerary:

6 DAYS 5 NIGHT.
DAY 1.

6 DAYS 5 NIGHTS.
DAY 1.

After breakfast, you meet your climbing guides for briefing.Transfer to Machame gate and start  the climb to Machame Camp which will take about 6 hours. Dinner and overnight at Machame camp.

DAY 2
After breakfast you climb up a steep ridge for2-3 hours, and then the path drops in to the river gorge before climbing more gently for another 2-3 hrs onto open moor land of Shira plateau. Overnight at Shira Camp.

DAY 3
A long trek to Baranco. This camp lies in sheltered areas below the spectacular cliffs of breach wall. The dome of Uhuru and edge of the Heim Glacier dominate the head of the valley. Overnight at Baranco Camp.

DAY 4.
This is another short walking day, about 5-6 hrs, with less extortion and a good rest in afternoon immediately before the hard summit day. Overnight at Barafu Camp. 

DAY 5
At midnight the trek begins up to the final steep, Cree section to reach Stella point. Walk steadily up the ridge and around the crater to reach Uhuru peak, your ultimate goal, at 5895m.From the summit the trek descend to overnight at Mweka Camp.

DAY 6
The trek continues down through the forest to the gate. Here you will meet your vehicle which will transport you to Moshi.


MT.CLIMBING MACHAME ROUTE

7 DAYS 6 NIGHTs
DAY 1.
After breakfast, you meet your climbing guides for briefing.Transfer to Machame gate and start   the climb to Machame Camp which will take about 6 hours. Dinner and overnight at Machame camp.

DAY 2
After breakfast you climb up a steep ridge for 3-4 hours, and then the path drops in to the river gorge before climbing more gently for another 3-4hrs onto open moorland of Shira plateau. Overnight at Shira Camp.

DAY 3

This is another short walking day, about 3hrs, with less extortion and a good rest in afternoon immediately before the hard summit day. Overnight at Barafu Camp. 

DAY 6.

Rongai Route Itinerary

6 DAYS / 5 NIGHTs - RONGAI ROUTE

Day 1 - To first cave, 1950m to 2600m, 6400ft to 8500ft, about 4hrs transfer by land rover (about 3hrs) to the attractive wooden village of Nale Moru (1950m). After signing in and preparing the porters, you will begin the hike on a wider path that winds through fields of maize and potatoes through an attractive forest that shelters a variety of wildlife. The forest begins to thin out and the first camp is at the edge of the moorland zone (2600) with the extensive views over the Kenyan plains.

Day 2 - To Kikelewa Camp, 2600m to 3600m, 8500ft to 11800ft, about 7hrs. The morning walk is a steady ascent up to the second rim. After lunch, leave the main trail and stripe ouyt across the moorland on a small path using a small path towards the jagged peaks of mawenzi. The campsite is in a sheltered valley with giant senecios near kikelewa camp. (3600m)

Day 3- To Mawenzi Tarn, 3600m to 4330m, 11800ft to 14200ft about 4hrs. Superb all-round views and grassy slopes. Leave the vegetation behind shortly before reaching the next camp at mawenzi Tarn (4330m), spectacularly situated in a cirque directly beneath the towering spires of mawenzi. The afternoon will be free to explore the surrounding area as an aid to acclimatize. if you are spending an extra day on the mountain, you will camp for two nights here. You can hike up and around mawenzi fior your aclimatization.

Day 4 - To kibo Camp, 4330m to 4750m, 14200ft to 15600ft. about 5hrs. Cross the lunar desert of the saddle between mawenzi and kibo to reach campsite (4750m) at the bottom of kibo crater wall. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for final ascent before a very early night.

Day 5 -To summit and Horombo hut, 4750m to 5895m and down to 3720m 15600ft to 19300ft, about 11hrs. Begin the final and by far steepest and most demanding part of the climb by torchlight around 1.00 am proceed very slowly in the darkness on a switchback trail through loose volcanic scree to reach the crater rim at Gillman's point (5685m) rest there for a short time to enjoy the sunrise over mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can make a 3hrs trip to Uhuru peak (5895m); passing close to glaciers and ice cliffs that occupy most of the summit area. The descent to kibo (4700m) is  fast suprising and after some refreshment the descent continues to reach the campsite at Horombo (3720m).

Day 6 - To Moshi, elevation (m): 3720m to 1700m, 12200ft to 5500ft hiking time. 5-7 hours. After breakfast, a steady descent takes us down through moorland to Mandara Hut (2700m) the first stopping point at Marangu (1830m). At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. waiters and trekking poles will help. shorts and T-Shirts will be proper plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).

 

Umbwe Route Itinerary

6 DAYS / 5 NIGHTs

We do transfer services from either KIA ( Kilimanjaro International Airport ), or East African borders to Moshi, at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro or Arusha , to your Lodge or campsite for dinner and overnight

Day 1 - Transfer from your hotel to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Umbwe. From here you trek along a narrow ridge between the Lonzo and Umbwe rivers to reach Bivouac No. 1 (also called Forest Caves ) at 9,400ft/2800m. Camp Overnight .

Day 2 -After breakfast trek slowly to baranco Camp. Lunch, dinner and over night stay at baranco camp. (3950M)

Day -3 Leave Baranco camp after breakfast to karanga camp (4hrs/4300M).lunch, dinner and overnight stay at Karanga camp.

Day 4 - Leave Karanga camp after breakfast to Barafu Camp (3hrs\4300). lunch, dinner and overnight stay at Barafu Camp.

Day 5 - Trek begins very early and clients are expected to reach the summit by daybreak. then descend slowly to Mweka Camp ( 8-10hrs up and down)

Day 6 - Leave Mweka Camp after breakfast and then proceed further down to Mweka Gate, back to the hotel in Moshi.

 

Shira Route Itinerary

Day 1
Mt.Meru Park Gate - Mariakamba: 4-5 hours Drive from Arusha to the Mt. Meru park gate where you will be met by our game ranger and porters. Hike for the few hours to Mariakamba Hut at 8,500 ft. Dinner and overnight rest at Mariakamba Hut.
Day 2
Mariakamba - Saddle Hut: 3-4 hours After breakfast hike  up to 11,500 ft to arrive at Saddle Hut. If time permits you can climb a little further on Mount Meru for a scenic view of the 'Roof of Africa', Mount Kilimanjaro. This will also be part of more acclimatization. Overnight at Saddle Hut.
Day 3
Saddle Hut - Summit: 4-6 hours An early rise to hike all the way to the summit before the afternoon clouds cover the summit. From the summit, descend back to the 11,500 ft Saddle Hut in time for lunch. After lunch, hike down to Mariakamba Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Breakfast at the camp and a leisurely morning. Descend to the park gate to connect with your waiting transfer vehicle back to your  Hotel, continue with other programs or depart.
